VIERxVIER celebrates dance with four diverse short performances for both new and seasoned audiences.
Selected and guided by Theater a/d Rijn, four upcoming makers show what dance and movement mean today. In a mix of backgrounds, styles and cultures, they strip dance down to its essence and focus on one thing: the imagination of the body. From hip-hop to modern and everything in between, VIERxVIER presents a kaleidoscopic view of dance. Let your imagination speak and celebrate dance with us.
The Indian Amisha Kumra is a movement artist who grew up in Norway. She has a background in both western and cultural dance styles, such as hip hop, house, kathak, bollywood and bhangra. In _peeling my purple onion she works with a live musician and improvisation tuned to hertz frequencies and beats. Join her on a journey where the breathing technique pranayama is the driving force between live music and dance.
Niek Vanoosterweyck - *click*
Niek Vanoosterweyck experiences boundless empowerment through movement: it is a way to test your limitations. In *click* he dances with an interactive laser and sound effects, leading to an explosive result. This performance, inspired by anime, will leave you amazed by creation and destruction.
Peeled Collective - het vouwen van stemmen
Emma Hanekroot and Emma Versluys form Peeled Collective. For VIERxVIER they created het vouwen van stemmen: a personal dance theatre performance about transgenerational trauma. Using poetry written by Emma Hanekroot and visual art created by Emma Versluys, they create a dynamic and surreal dance duet.
Ibrah Silas Jackson - Unravel Threads
Director and choreographer Ibrah Silas Jackson comes from hip hop, but also draws inspiration from Funk and African cultures. For Unravel Threads he delves into the effects of peer pressure, such as external influence and the performance anxiety that young people deal with. Three dancers from different styles go in search of authenticity and self-empowerment.
