Soula's Storytelling Nights: The Great Escape
Listen to the stories of professional storytellers and talented newcomers!
Funny, sad, scary, sweet, unbelievable, comforting stories: that's what Soula's Storytelling Nights are all about. Make yourself at home and listen to stories from all over the word!
So on Tuesday April 16th come and listen to experienced storytellers and talented newcomers tell their tales. And if inspiration strikes, audience-members are invited to put their name in a hat. At the end of the night two names will be picked at random and these two lucky birds will get to share their story. True stories about crazy families, horrible dates, myths, folk tales, newly written stories: anything goes as long as the stories are told and not read from paper.
Four times a year, Soula Notos hosts this storytelling evening in Theater Kikker. This is the last edition of this theater season.
Soula's Storytelling Night is in English.
Irina Koriazova (1994) is an Amsterdam-based storyteller. Born in a provincial city in Russia, she never thought she would leave. And yet here she is, trying to make sense of her life through telling stories. Irina has a dry sense of humour and she likes to turn things upside down: a huge scary monster becomes worthy of love, and a victim turns into a protagonist. Her stories are often described as raw and unsanitized. Irina often hosts and performs at Mezrab, as well at other storytelling venues and events all over the Netherlands. She performed at the Boslab Theaterfestival, Gluren bij de Buren festival, Viva la Vulva festival, Oerol Festival, the Amsterdam Fringe Festival (2023) and the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival.
Anas Al Halabi
I’m Anas, a storyteller from Syria. Nine years ago, I came to the Netherlands as a refugee, an experience that has profoundly shaped my passion for storytelling. I firmly believe that the best way to truly understand someone is through their stories—the tales of their life. My love for reading and listening to podcasts keeps me continually immersed in the world of narratives. Through storytelling, I aim to share the richness of life, resilience, and the shared human experience, inviting you to know me, and others, one story at a time.
