Community Gathering

With Freaky Dancing #5 within sight, Freaky Dancing and Theater Kikker join forces once more by organizing a community gathering for artists, makers and creatives on Tuesday 22 April at Theater Kikker
This community gathering has a special focus on performance artist, dancers and theatremakers who dare to venture outside the black box, the traditional ‘safe haven’ of the theatre world.
More than ever, it's apparent that the next generation of artist and performers are freeing themselves from the limitations of the theatre. Unconventional locations and venues are being activated by dynamic performances and the lines between the ‘floor’, fixed audience placements and even the backstage is blurred.
The program consist of an interview with two artists that are on the foreground of this exploration. These artists are Courtney May Robertson and Alyson Sillon.
Getting curious to see Courtney’s and Alyson's perform in real life? Come check it out at Freaky Dancing on 10 May in WAS., Utrecht.

Courtney May Robertson (1992) is a Scottish born and Rotterdam based dancer & performance artist. We will focus on her show HUNTER - OFF RECORD!!!, the underground offspring of her award-winning theater production HUNTER, previously shown at Theater Kikker. HUNTER - OFF RECORD!!! Is a chaotic and immersive performance and installation featuring Robertson and her silicone doppelgänger.
Courtney will present us with a glimpse of her artistic practice, talking about the challenges and lessons learned when performing outside conventional settings. How can a play take shape when locations vary wildly? What etiquette do you need to adhere to when an audience is not fixed in place? What is needed to uphold your artistic vision when practical matters come into play?
Alyson Sillon (1997) is more things than she’s not. A visual artist, performer, graphic designer and DJ, Sillon’s activities in all disciplines inform each other, and contribute towards a personal practice that is deeply inspired by the mythological dimensions of counter-cultural movements. In her project Before/After, which was featured at Het Hem and Club RAUM before making its way to Freaky Dancing, Sillon delves into the world of techno, exploring its Black and queer origins through immersive installations that blend performances with symbolic languages and scent design. The work highlights transitional moments and shifting energies within a rave night, proving how nightlife is not only entertainment, but a profound, respectful and cathartic journey.
