Billy Mullaney

Billy Mullaney (VS) is een in Amsterdams gevestigde kunstenaar die werkt met theater, choreografie en performance art. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op de conventies van de toeschouwer binnen de podiumkunsten en hoe interventies deze kunnen beïnvloeden. Door zijn interventies rigoureus te belichamen zet Billy’s werk de fysiologische impact van beweging en denken op het lichaam op de voorgrond. Hij maakt zichtbaar wat er op het spel staat wanneer we de logica van bijvoorbeeld de aandachtseconomie en het postfordisme te nauwgezet volgen. Zijn onderzoek uit zich in verschillende vormen: van een lezing over kwantumfysica tot kindertelevisieprogramma’s en van promotietrailers tot tarotkaartlezingen.

Billy Mullaney (USA) is an Amsterdam-based artist working in theatre, choreography, and performance art. His research focuses on representational practices in and of various sites of performance, the modes of spectatorship they conventionally engender, and how interventions in the former affect the latter. By rigorously embodying such interventions, Billy's work often foregrounds the physiological impact of movement and thought on the body, indexing the stakes of adhering too closely (or too successfully) to logics such as the attention economy or post-fordist production. This research has led him to experiment with forms ranging from quantum physics lectures and children's television shows to promotional trailers and tarot readings. Billy is an associate artist of TILT; he is also a lecturer, mathematics instructor, and an actor.
