A sparkling mix of styles in a playful, enchanting dance performance!
They totally different: the tall ballerina and the smaller hip-hop dancer. When they dance with each other, at first you see mostly the differences. She moves gracefully and upright, he tumbles across the floor. The two find each other playing with the umbrellas on stage. You can make a house with them, you can spin them around in a show dance, and when it rains paper shreds, you can take shelter under them.
Choreographer Amala Dianor began as a hip-hop dancer himself, and then took formal dance training. For ten years he has been creating performances about the encounter between different dance styles and cultures, which he mixes virtuosically. For example, he brought together dancers from West Africa and Europe. He always worked for an audience of adults. In order to empathize with an audience as young as two years old, he went into creches.
The request to create a dance piece for toddlers came from an institute for dance development in Roubaix, France. There they ask professional choreographers to create something for very young children for a change, because this happens so rarely. ‘Les mouvement miniscules’ is what this initiative is called: tiny movements. The result is a playful, joyful narrative, which also takes a very young audience with it.
